♠️ Behind the Cards: A Look at the Back Design
11 months ago – Thu, Apr 17, 2025 at 09:04:44 AM

Hi Fateweavers,
Quick design drop for you: the back design for the Monsters & Myths Folklore Characters Playing Cards is officially finished!

This wasn’t just a case of “make it look cool” (though, trust—it does look cool). I wanted the visual language of the cards to reflect the Caribbean’s layered heritage. The background uses a batik pattern, drawing from textile traditions that are both artful and ancestral.

At the centre? A radiant sun, framed by a circular African tribal pattern—symbols of energy, life, and cyclical power. The rest of the design pulls from African tribal motifs, grounding the deck in the deep cultural influences that echo throughout the Monsters & Myths universe.

This is more than just a playing card deck. It’s a storytelling tool. A ritual object. A piece of living folklore in your hands.

Check out the poll to choose your favourite, and let us know in the comments.

More to come soon.

🌀 Update: Smoke Test Sent + Rulebook Draft Complete!
11 months ago – Wed, Apr 16, 2025 at 04:49:24 AM

Hi Fateweavers,
We’ve officially entered the next phase of the campaign journey, and things are moving along beautifully.

We’ve completed the pledge manager setup in BackerKit, incorporated feedback from their review team, and gotten final approval. That means we’ve just sent out the Smoke Test—a trial run sent to 5% of backers to ensure everything’s working smoothly. Check your inbox to see if you’re part of that first wave!
Once the smoke clears (pun intended), we’ll send the full surveys out to everyone. So stay tuned!

But that’s not all...
We’ve also wrapped up the first full draft of the Monsters & Myths Digital Core Essentials Rule Book. It’s been an incredible experience bringing the system together in one cohesive, accessible volume—and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Thank you, as always, for your support. The world of Monsters & Myths is one step closer to your table.

Stay legendary,
Marc with Monsters & Myths

🎲 Monsters & Myths: Live Play Continues Tonight! (Session 4)
11 months ago – Thu, Apr 10, 2025 at 04:00:44 PM

Hey Fateweavers!
Just a quick heads-up that Session 4 of our Monsters & Myths: Village Over Yonder live play series is happening tonight—and trust us, you won’t want to miss it.
Here’s a quick recap of last session (Session 3):
Our brave party—Fizz, Olin, and Gin—thought they were rescuing lost children. Instead, they were ambushed by monsters made of centipedes disguised as kids! During the chaos, Gin transformed into a massive snake, much to Olin’s alarm.
Then things got even weirder.
A mysterious bell rang through the storm. The real children were found deep in the jungle, covered in swarming bugs and guarded by a giant centipede. After a tense battle, Olin captured the broodmother using one of Fizz’s handmade inventions, saving the kids.
Now the children are leading the party to their hidden treehouse—and they’ve hinted that their father, Reverend Eastman, may not be as holy as he seems...
🗓️ Tune in live tonight to find out what happens next!

⏰ April 10, 7:45 pm AST
Thanks for being a part of this journey. Whether you’re watching live or catching up later, we’re so excited to keep bringing the world of Monsters & Myths to life.

Update & Dev Blog #1 | Monsters & Myths
11 months ago – Wed, Apr 09, 2025 at 09:06:47 AM

Hey Fateweavers,

UPDATE: We've submitted our pre-survey request review. According to the tooltips, that can take roughly 2 business days. Then the recommendation is we wait 14 days after the close of the campaign so send out the surveys. We anticipate those going out at early as April 17, but more likely the week of April 21.

We're officially in the first week of the fulfillment phase—gears turning, pieces moving. The backer surveys are being prepped and will be submitted for review later today (or tomorrow at the latest). Once they're cleared, they'll head straight to your inbox.
But that’s not why we’re here right now.
While we work behind the scenes to get your rewards squared away, we wanted to share a little something we’ve been cooking up.
You already know that Monsters & Myths uses a standard deck of playing cards. But soon, you won’t have to settle for ordinary.
We’re creating a custom Caribbean folklore-inspired deck, and today, you’re getting a first look at one of the face cards: the Jack of Spades.
Here’s some lore for your curious hearts:
Father Vincent Holmes isn’t pulled from traditional Caribbean folklore—he’s an original creation. But make no mistake: he belongs in this world. A solemn figure with a complex relationship to death, Father Vincent plays a pivotal role in the Monsters & Myths universe as a monster warden—one who stands between our world and what lies beyond.
The Spades suit, for those who don’t know, carries heavy meaning—often tied to power, authority, and yes, death. In Monsters & Myths, it reflects the darker edges of the supernatural. The grim, the potent, the unrelenting. Father Vincent, as the Jack of Spades, embodies all of this. He doesn’t just face monsters—he understands them. And he knows what must be done.
Hope you enjoyed this peek behind the curtain—consider it the first entry in our Dev Blog series.
More soon,
 The Monsters & Myths Team
